t is hard to believe that Joe is no longer available for giving me ideas for new articles or going over a new article to proof it. I believe we go back to the first issue of Top Notch Toys (I have it saved somewhere, can’t find it now) then ShowSight since. I never ceased to wonder how Joe
managed to get these articles out of my head. Usually he would give me an idea with just a few words and I would be off typing for days. I miss him so much already. He will never be forgotten as all his friends must feel as I do, that he was part of my family. Now I have no immediate family left except the ShowSight gang.
Joe urged me to write about judging in other countries. As it turned out, they wined and dined us royally and took us on tours to see what their coun- try was like. I never ceased to be awed by their hospitality. I am ashamed that we do not treat our visiting judges that way. They at least paid for us to stay 4 or 5 days after judging to tour. Africa was the most thrilling to me as a science teacher. That was a tour like a safari. I think Joe realized that I would not only write about judging dogs there, but give a little more about the people and the country. I thought that would have been boring to many, but I received many compliments about my trips that we continued for many years. Actually, I began in the 1990s and quit in 2015. I had covered all the continents except the South Pole. Joe was right again—the readers wanted more—but I said no as travel was telling on me. So Joe said, “Tell us about your USA experiences with dog shows.” So then, he wrote about my 50 Years of Judging AKC Award. He always surprised me!
That was fun too and to this day people come to me and ask, “When are you going to write another column?” I had a few ideas just before Joe became ill, and he approved them, so I will keep my promise.
RIP, MY EDITOR!
