LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear ShowSight Editor,
On behalf of the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America, I would like to correct and address a few comments published in the Hound Group portion of your May 2020 issue.
There are four Vendéen Hounds which include the Grand Griffon Vendéen, the Briquet Griffon Ven- déen, the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen and lastly the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen. They are not referred to as the “four BGV breeds.” Two of the breeds have the word “Basset” in them, as they are lower set to the ground.
We are confused by the statement that our Judges Education is “limited.” Our Judges Education pre- sentation was created utilizing data, photos and illustrations from all over the world encompassing numer- ous breeders from the US and Europe. The purpose of our Judges Education presentation is to accurately represent the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen as per the approved AKC standard. Once formulated, our Judges Education was approved by our Board of Directors, which consists of esteemed Best in Show Judg- es, Hound Group Judges and AKC Breeders of Merit. Without bias, all GBGV breeders and owners are always encouraged to bring their dogs for the hands-on portion of any of sponsored Judges Education presentations for judges to review and go over if the time and distance allows.
Our Judges Education program receives high ratings by the judges who have attended and we encour- age any judge, experienced or novice, to reach out to our Judges Education Committee (ksteidel@aol.com or sidekickcb@aol.com) for any upcoming opportunities or utilize the AKC Canine College online to learn more about our noble hounds.
