PLEASE LOVE ME LIKE I LOVE YOU, IS A CHILDREN’S BOOK ABOUT HOW TO BE KIND TO
YOUR PET DOG.
This book was written for toddlers and for children through about age 5. This book fills a
needed niche for little ones. With the pan- demic going on right now and our “stay-at-
home” order children are spending a lot more time with their pets! I have been told by some
parents that this book changed their child’s behavior.
Adorable dogs sincerely ask the reader to “Please love me like I love you” in this child’s
guide to love and kindness toward their pet dog. There is also a feature that encourages
the child to search for a heart on every page.
I wrote the book because I could not find any book written for younger children in
any bookstore or the library that dealt with kindness towards pets for that
age group. Kindness needs to be taught and I wanted to reach those toddlers while their minds are
growing and learning.
I am a first-time author. I recruited my talented sister, Janis Dillon, to do all the original watercolor illus-
trations so it was a joint venture. Just recently we have won 2 book awards from two children’s book contests. The first award was a Purple Dragonfly Award from
Story Monsters Inc. (a digital educational magazine), in the Animal/Pet category. We were also a finalist in The International
Book Awards for the category of “Children’s Picture Book: Soft-
cover Non-Fiction”.
 ABOUT THE AUTHOR: KIP FECHNER
When I became a grandmother, I revisited raising kids. I watch my granddaughter often and as an active 15-month-old I saw how rough she was with our dogs and her own dog. I was terrified that my granddaughter would be bitten. This led me to write my own book since there was nothing like this book available for her age group.
I live in Ballwin, MO with my husband, Bill. We have 3 grown children, 2 granddaughters, and a rat terrier, Sheeba. My husband’s printing company, Advertisers Printing, is the book’s publisher.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR: JANIS DILLON
My sister, Janis, is a retired Elementary School teacher. Her love of art and nature has always been a major influence in her work with young children. She taught for 25 years in the Clayton Public Schools and in early retirement she worked as a nanny. She currently volun- teers at her church’s preschool. Jan enjoys raising monarch butterflies each summer and continues to enjoy water painting. She lives with her husband, Mike, and their basset hound, Ava Mae, in Webster Groves, MO. Jan has 2 grown sons and 2 grandchildren.
