                  Toy Breed Q&A:
PEKINGESE
DIANE BURVEE
I live in Kansas City for a good part of the year, when I am not visiting fam- ily and friends in Asia and Europe. I write, I travel and I conduct research on subjects of special interests with my latest subject being “Revolution Of The American Psyche In The Global Per- spective.” I love good food and exotic concoction of drinks; I am also a self- proclaimed ‘foodie’ who enjoys trying out different cuisines/new restaurants
in different parts of the world. I am blessed that my very first Pekingese became America’s number one bitch for 2 consecu- tive years owner-handled and a free-whelping Pedigree Chum Top Producer when bred to produce an all-champion litter of 4! I have been involved in the sport since 1993 when I came to attend college in America, together with my foundation Australia-imported Afghan Hound bitch. My main breed now is the French Bulldog which once again, I have the nation’s number one bitch for the past 2 years breeder-owner-han- dled, and we have also won both the National and Regional Specialties the past few years. I am privileged to have been licensed to judge by AKC for 6 years now. I am licensed by the AKC to judge French Bulldogs, Pekingese, Afghans and Poo- dles. Not only have I judged Specialties and all-breeds shows in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Mexico and United Kingdom, I have judged more French Bulldog Specialties on an international level than any other American judges in the past few years. My Qazara French Bulldogs have won more All-Breeds BIS & RBIS combined than all my competitors, plus the greatest number of Specialty BIS the past couple of years, including both the coveted French Bulldog Club of America’s National and Independent Specialties.
J. ROBERT JACOBSEN
My wife and I live in Pocatello, Idaho. I have been retired from the restaurant business for many years. We own a dog grooming shop here in Pocatello. My wife is an accom- plished groomer with over 35 years experience. I help her in the shop daily. We have a camping trailer and spend our time outside of dogs, fish-
ing and camping. It is only 150 miles to both Yellowstone Park and the Grand Tetons Park from our home—so we make good use of this to camp and fish. I have owned and shown Pekingese for 54 years, since 1963. I have been judging the breed since 1990. I have judged the National Specialty twice and my dogs have won the National Specialty shows twice. I have had 13 of my dogs win All-Breed Best in Shows. I have judged all over the US, as well as in England 5 times (2 spe- cialty shows), in Australia (Specialty show), Canada (Special- ty show) and Taiwan 3 times. My kennel name is Sing Lee (inherited from Otto and Irene Russhaupt). This kennel was established in 1934. Although I have owned several other Toy breeds, the Pekingese holds the number one place in my heart.
RAY LO
I live in Manila, Philippines
and work as a pathologist. I also
breed orchids. I’ve been in dogs
for 46 years and started showing
in 1972. My first judging license
was for Pekingese and since then,
I have judged the Toy Group first
and moved on to judge all breeds in
2012. I am an FCI licensed judge and have traveled to Europe, Australia and many countries in Asia including China, Thai- land, Singapore, India and Malaysia.
I have been in Pekingese since 1970 and have been breed- ing and showing under the affix Dreamville. Over the years, I have produced over 30 homebred American Champions plus more than 300 Philippine Champions. My homebreds have won 4 BISS in the States and many others have done particu- larly well in specialties, many of them owner-handled. I am a PCA Register of Merit Breeder. My judging career started in 1994 when I earned my license to judge Pekingese in the Philippines. I judged sweepstakes at the Pekingese Club of Central California in 1997. Over the years, I became licensed in many groups and subsequently earned my license as an FCI all breeds judge in 2010.
