Emma’s
Emma’s journey began, from our rescue lyn passed that November—remember
point of view, on march 4, 2010, when she was picked up as a stray by Philadel- phia animal Control. found with a very
mangled, twisted hind leg, Emma was diagnosed to be an immediate candidate for a leg amputa- tion. shelter vets were forced to perform a quick fix to help alleviate the deep pain that little two- year-old Emma was experiencing.
our Pekingese Rescue Network Inc. volunteer, Carolyn, arrived at the shelter within hours of our notification of Emma’s arrival but it was not soon enough for us to get Emma to our rescue vet for a second opinion. Emma’s leg was taken.
for days the little 6-lb. Pekie lay in her cage, not eating or drinking on her own. Then as if a miracle, Emma was found standing on her three little legs, fluffy tail wagging. Emma the survivor was born.
Carolyn, our PRNI volunteer, hurried back to bring Emma home. At first Emma was Carolyn’s foster, but within a month Emma was adopted by Carolyn.
Their time together was filled with adventures, including the Pekingese Rescue Network Pa- rade at the Triple Crown in 2010 which Carolyn co-chaired. at that parade Emma met a woman named Barbara who would play a significant part later in her life’s journey.
Emma’s time with Carolyn was short lived. Caro- lyn, a cancer survivor, relapsed in october 2010. Emma’s stay with Carolyn took on the purpose that god had intended. Emma was Carolyn’s constant home hospice companion until Caro-
“dog” spelled backwards is god.
along with her housemate maggie, Emma was taken back to Pekingese Rescue Net- work Inc., as the rescue contract states that Carolyn, and all adopters, agreed to.
maggie was co-adopted to a new home. Little Emma found herself in the Peke-filled home of the PRNI Director. Emma had so much fun with the gang of little Pekes, both show types and rescues—non-stop play time! her favor- ite to play with was a little 5-lb Parti color Peke named swirla.
a guardian angel was still watching over Emma. The angel was the wonderful animal advocate lady, Barbara, who had met Emma at the TC Rescue Parade earlier that fall. Barbara had fallen in love with Emma then, but realized Carolyn was not about to give her up. Barbara insisted that Emma was to live with her now.
so Emma’s journey that started with so much pain and misery has a wonderful happy ending, she and Barbara are together... forever.
Now Emma lives along with her housemates, sunshine, a giant orange cat that cleans Emma daily, and addie, a beautiful retired show Peke, enjoying the “good life”. Every evening before bedtime, all three are given a treat of roast beef by their loving owner.
Now in “Dogdom” and “Catdom”, life cannot get better than that. so Emma’s journey ends.
